Several years ago, Joan O'Dell and I retreived Matthew McConnel's headstone from the Kaul garage. I mounted it in a oak frame and contributed it to the Horseheads Historical Society where it is mounted on the wall. Interestingly Matthew's death of "June 24, 1817 AET 77yrs", is written but "Chloe his wife Di'd July 19th 1801 in the 48th year of her age" is also written. I'm guessing Chloe was a nickname for Elizabeth????
There are Ludlums on the 1768 tax roll in the Township of Morris NJ--Creed, Abraham, and a Samuel--20 miles SE from Cranberry Lake/Reservoir--Matthew's birthplace--a Matthew McConnel(either SR or JR) is listed on this same tax role, owning 10 acres.
There were also numerous Ludlums is Goshen/Warwick, Orange Co NY. A William Ludlum in 1721 was part of a group that deeded the lands for the Goshen township and church.
I also found a Isaac Ludlum who married a Catherine Gale that had six children including a Elizabeth--no birthdate for her but a brother John was 1744-1807. So about the right time Isaac's will was dated 10 Aug 1767 liber 26 page 154. Could not find a marriage between Matthew and Elizabeth Hope this helps
