The family-name of Lüdtke is an abbreviated pet form of the first name Ludwig in the Low German (Plattdeutsch) dialect. Ludwig consists of the two words Lud = Fame and wig = war, meaning therefore, one famous in war.

This bit of info comes from the Deutsches Geschlecterbuch (German Family Name book) for Pomerania, volume 136.
