Lugenbeels of Maryland
Second attempt at posting. I don't have enough time to do a thorough job at family geneology, but am more than willing to try to help others with theirs. I am almost certainly related to Pinkney in the post below since my grandparents were among the Lugenbeels that were settled in Frederick and Carroll Counties. I had learned about Pinkney because of a map that was published in a book by Russell Means that showed Lugenbeel County in South Dakota at the turn of the 20th century.
By the way, there was a History Channel segment about the disaster of the Sultana, a steamboat that exploded on the Mississippi river in 1865 killing most of the 1700 or so people on board. Those people were mostly Union soldiers that were released after the Civil War and were being returned to their homes in the North. This event went almost unnoticed because it occurred a day or so after Lincoln was assassinated. Anyway, one of the survivors was a William Lugenbeel, who was on his way back to Illinois if memory serves. Just thought this might be of interest to some folks out there.
