Washington Lumbley

My great grand father was George Washington Nelson, he is listed on the 1860 Newton County, Missouri census at the age of 12 along with a brother James 10 and a sister Sarah 9 living with Washington Lumbley.
In 1870 George W. Nelson married Samantha Elizabeth Gunn, daughter of George T. Gunn and Mariah Blow Gunn in Guadalupe County, Texas.
There is a note on the marriage license, signed by Washington Lumbley stating that George W. Nelson was 18 and of age to marry.
I am trying to find the connection between them. Maybe Lumbley was his grandfather.
I am at a dead end on Nelson,
I hope someone can help.
Thanks Kay
