Hello Karen, I thought I had deleted my speculations that Joice (Ferguson) Lumpkin was the wife of Robert Lumpkin who died before 1805 when his children deeded the land to the brother John G. Lumpkin. If you will remember, I emphasize that this was pure speculation.Since then Jeanette Tabb who I believe to be our greatest Lumpkin researcher, has given me a book which shows that the wife of Robert Lumpkin who died before 1805 was Mary Ball daughter of Patricia Reeves and John Ball who died in Essex Co. VA in 1779.
The book is "Colemans, Crows, Durhams and Related Families by Eleanor Coleman Durham Wallace andThomas Eugene Coleman, Jr. 199 and printed byh BookCrafters Fredericksburg VA.
Their cited proof is The Will of Austen/Austin Ball which was recorded 20 May 1782 in which he bequeathed a negro James to his mother during her lifetime and then at her death to be equally divided between this two sisters Lumpkin and Coleman.Austen Ball appointed his friends Robert Lumpkin and John Coleman as his executors.Citation is Essex Co. VA Will Bk. 13, p. 352.
So now who is the father of Robert Lumpkin who died before 1805?I would speculate that it was not Dr. Robert Lumpkin who is in Essex Co. in the 1600's.We still do not know if he were the son or brother of Jacob Lumpkin died 1708. No proof exists even if he were related to Jacob Lumpkin but circumstantial evidence seems that probably he was a brother.
We still do not know the name of the husband of Joice (Ferguson) Lumpkin with all of those males in her household.
Where did you get the date that Robert Lumpkin, father of John Lumpkin and siblings, died before 1782?I would appreciate that source as I do not have that date.He was alive when Austin/Austen Ball wrote his Will on 10th of April 1782.Carol J. McCraw
