George LUMPKIN 1800-1881

Hello fellow LUMPKIN researchers. I have just started working on this line for my wife and have read many of the post with interest. Some have helped me either prove my assumptions or bring up more questions. I would like to ask the following questions and then add a titbit or two of info that I just found out this week.

Does anyone have "proof" that William LUMPKIN is the father of George? I know most of my wife's family and researchers have it as William, but I am leaning (with no proof-just assumptions) that Richard is indeed the father to George and maybe Dickerson, Thomas, and Robert D. There are others that I think should be included as brothers.

There is a Lewis L. LUMPKIN born 1797 in NC that I think may fit into this line. Does anyone have him and who he is related to.

Most family researchers, articles and post I have read, stated that George and his family moved to Pleasant Grove, AL. Can some one tell me where this is. I have found several different Pleasant Groves in my researches. I have found the 1850 census enumeration for George and family. It was listed in the index as SUMPKIN. They can be found in Floyd Co, AL page 140b.

Next tidbit of info. George's daughter Susan was said to have married James A. PIERCE in AL on 29 Dec 1858. When the war broke out, Susan was said to have gone to Cass Co, TX with her father and family and James stayed in AL and followed when war was over.

Actually, Susan and James were married on 29 Dec 1858 in Rusk Co, TX. The marriage record can be found in Book C, pg 98 of Rusk Co. James also served in the war from Rusk Co in the 3rd Texas Volunteer Cavalry. Robert, Susan's brother, served in a unit from Rusk Co. George was also in Rusk Co at this time. He joined the newly chartered Masonic Lodge sometimes between 1854-1859.

I have sent for the pension records of both James and Robert and their spouses.

Well I hope to hear from anyone who can help me prove the parentage of George. I would love to have more info to help prove my assumptions or to disprove them. I am open to any and all feed back. I am also keeping info on all LUMPKIN families I am running into as I work on this line.

Thanks and good luck and good hunting in your researches.
