Hello Bob Baird, I have spent years trying to prove that the Robert Lumpkin who married Elizabeth Forrest was not the son of Mary Cody and George LUmpkin. I am also unrelated to the Lumpkins. Martha/Mathey Lumpkin married William Maccraw who was the son of Mary Owen and Edward Macraw. Earlier researchers, without proof, believed that Martha Lumpkin married William Maccraw the Assistant Deputy Quartermast. A genealogist was retained back in 1930's and he decided that the William Maccraw whom Martha married, was the son of William Maccraw who was brother to Samuel Maccraw. This Genealogist evidently did not realize that there were three William Maccraws, all first cousins, living Halifax Co. VA at the same time.

Have not been able to ascertain the parents of Martha Lumpkin to date. Earlier researchers thought her father would have been Moore LUmpkin whom I refer to as William II. Several years ago, after very thorough search, this has proven not to be true and I am back at the proverbial brickwall. Elizbeth Lumpkin Maccraw, a daughter of Martha Lumpkin and William Maccraw, married her first cousin Samuel McCraw, son of Mary Owen and Edward McCraw. They have hundreds of descendants and had hoped to clear that line. William Maccraw II and Edward Maccraw were two of the eight sons of William Maccraw who was in Goochland Co. and died shortly after where he paid taxes, became Cumberland Co. This has gone on too long. Will contact you by e-mail. CArol
