Hi, there were several Robert Lumpkins during the same period of time. We do not know the parents of the Robert Lumpkin who was born 26 November 1756 [which also is the same month and day in which I was born in 1920.) It appears as if Mary Cody and George Lumpkin had a son named Robert and I believe I have proven that he cannot be the Robert Lumpkin born 26 November 1756. A William Maccraw married Martha/Mathey Lumpkin whom someone entered the NSDAR because a certified genealogist had her married to the wrong William Maccraw who was the Deputy Quartermaster in VA. It was proved by Bible records that the Deputy Quartermaster was not married to Martha/Mathey Lumpkin. Luckily for us, family records for Martha Lumpkin and our William Maccraw have been found in MIssissippi where they were still living in 1850 with a son and family. The surety
for the marriage bond when William Maccraw and Martha Lumpkin married in Halifax Co. VA was a Robert Lumpkin. By process of elimination and extensive research, we believe that this Robert Lumpkin might have been the one born in 1756 and possibly could be the heir at law when More/Moore Lumpkin died and who was not the son of the widow Ann Woodson Lumpkin. We also have learned that a John Camel Lumpkin died and his widow then married a James McCraw who was the son of Martha/Mathey Lumpkin and our William Maccraw. The youngest granddaughter of this last marriage interviewed and stated her grandmother was married to "cousins."

I have much I will share with you if you can translate Word Perfect documents otherwise I will transfer to Word. Contact me at That is a zero not the letter oh. Carol J. McCraw
