Thanks so much Stan Jones. It is certainly easy when someone tells you what to do. Your Lumpkins very interesting. I corresponded years ago with Roberta Lumpkin and she sent me her notebooks which she allowed me to copy. After she and her husband moved to the Southwest to be closer to their daughter, I was able to provide her with the information that Ann Cabiness was the wife of Dickerson Lumpkin Sr. I learned this quite by accident when in the Virginia Archives. My husband had a distant cousin who lived in Varina and she and I joined forces tracing Maccraws. I did the first edition of It is McCraw not McGraw which was a compilation of what I had learned early in my research for Gene's ancestry. Then Mary Mac and I learned much more and corrected erroneous information and did a second edition of It is McCraw not McGraw. Mary Mac died unexpectedly while we were in the process of compiling the third edition of It is McCraw not McGraw. I then published the 3rd edtion in 1998. Anyway, once while with Mary Mad in the Archives, Robert Clay, an archivist, told me there was a connection with his Clays to Lumpkins. He then furnished the information re Ann Lumpkin who married a Belcher and her parents were Ann Cabiness and Dickerson Lumpkin Sr. who died in Charlotte Co. VA. If you are interested, contact me by e-mail. My last letter to Roberta Lumpkin was returned, forwarding address unknown. I wish I had known the married name of her daughter.
Thanks for sharing. Carol J. McCraw
