james fife lumsden of virginia...
james served the 9th va, cav co. e under j.e.b. stuart. he lived to be the second oldest csa veteran (104.9.)of virginia, missing this distinction by five months. (many claims have been made and have also been dispelled. i believe this accurate.) after the war, he served as the post master of what i understood, was mine run virginia.
since uncovering this, i have a new problem. did he serve mine run or tinder station? does anyone know which home he lived in? is there anyway of dicovering which office he actually served? as i understand it, mine run's post office was about 200 yards from the tinder station post office. if this is correct, standing on one property, you could walk to the other in seconds. can anyone shed some light on this? help is much appreciated.
