My grandmother's research indicated that the original Swedish documents recorded his birthdate as 7-5-1829, so that he would in fact have been born May 7th. But I'll wait until I can see the "original" documents before I set it in stone. Faktorismed transliterates as "factory smith" or "factory blacksmith". That's interesting because my great-grandpa Gustav Herbert worked in Rockford as a foundry worker and foreman for many years. Guess it was a family tradition!
