John Lutz of Washington, D.C.
Posted by: Miriam Lamb (ID *****9765) Date: April 11, 2009 at 14:15:23
  of 1687

John Lutz moved from Frederic, MD with his wife Mary Miller, to Georgetown, Washington, D.C. in April, 1805 He fought in the Revolution. We have in our possession a photocopy of a letter from Eliza Parke Custis thanking John Lutz for his care of her uncle George Washington at Valley Forge. The DAR put up a plaque in his honor in 1976 on his home on Wisconsin Georgetown. but they don't know why, apparently having no information about him. The only birth date we have for him is 9 June 1775 which surely makes him a very young hero! He and his wife are buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Georgetown, D.C. Unfortunately the tombstone, a flat rectangle, is so worn the birth date is unintelligible. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated!
