No, don't have a clue where John was born. There is a long line of Lyfords in Berkshire, but none of us Francis Lyford chasers have yet to link Francis with anyone in England. All we can do is guess. There are two good suspects for his parents in Berkshire. It is also conceivable that he was a son of Mordecai Lyford, Rev. John's son. I've seen lots of claims, all based on "facts" grabbed out of the air; nary a shred of documentation.
I wish I'd paid more attention to John when collecting information on Francis.I recall reading somewhere the speculation that John was such a scoundrel he was chased out of England to Ireland, where he took the name Lyford for the first time.I have no idea where I read that; possibly when cramming a month's worth of research into a single day at the wonderful genealogy library in Manhattan. Now that there is reason to think Francis at least knew Rev. John's children, I will be revisiting some books and taking notes.
If anyone can point me to original source material that sheds light on the issue of Francis' origin (wills, church records, tax rolls, etc.), I know several researchers who will be most appreciative.
