Thomas Alexander Lyle
Hi,
I just returned from a trip to Shelburne, Nova Scotia where I met with a Nickerson cousin who showed me around the Barrington area where my ancestors are from.He gave me a packet of info on the Lyle family who I also am descended from.
I'm sure some of this info is incorrect and wonder if anyone can help me.I think there is a generation or 2 missing.
It states Thomas Alexander was born in Glasgow Scotland and was a tanner.
then it says his son John was born in 1779 in Hamilton Scotland and was a member of the 4th Dragoons and fought at Bunker Hill along with his brother Galvin. They were given 200 acres of land in Shelburne.
Well, Bunker Hill was fought in 1775 so the birth date of 1779 can not be correct.
It goes on that he married Sarah Spinney and they had 7 children, one of whom was Alexander b 2-11-1815 married Eunice Blades and had 4 children, one of whom was Jeremiah born 10-20-1840.
He was my great grandfather. He married Sarah Ann Sears Nickerson and they had Bessie Odessa Lyle b 10-12-1888(my grandmother) who married Marshall James Nickerson and had my mother Hilda Leona b 1-28-1909.
So if anyone can fill me in on the correct birth date of John Lyle or if there was another generation or 2 between this John Lyle and Thomas Alexander Lyle, I would be most appreciative.
Thanks,
Linda
