My source of information is the book "The Lymburner Legacy" by Susan Paquette. In her book she uses exerpts from a manuscript written by Alice Lymburner. According to her research she found the earliest records of Lymburners in Scotland in Kilmarnock. They were recorded as Silk Merchants who came from Italy in the 12 or 13th century. Although at the time Italy may not have been known as Italy it was certainly a very structured society and the Roman Catholic Church kept records of many things,(especialy merchants and any other form of business for tax purposes)There is also indications that Scots went to Italy first and then returned to Scotland several generations later check into the village of Gurro in Cannobia Valley where records indicate Scottish names and other facts lending credance to this theory.
