I'm not sure if Mathew was married before or not. Mathew Jr. tombstone states he died 22 Dec 1832 age 67 years which makes him born ca 1765, brother John was born 8 Apr 1769 and the next child was Margaret who married Nihemah Gilman in New Brunswick. I have a picture of her stone supplied by a distant cousin and her obit states she was born in Maine in 1772.
"Hand festing" was quite common in Scotland. All a couple had to do was hold hands and walk over water [bridge] and declare themselves married.
I have ordered in the Dundonald Parish records and can find no first marriage for Mathew.
