Follow-up to my earlier message regarding Lynams of Sumter County. Because of varying spellings, I will use the spelling that my records show. Morris (Maurice) Linam and his wife Mary (I didn't have her maiden name of Jones) were in South Carolina by 1763. I have a possible birth date for Morris of 1743 (no location). They had eight children (I'm not sure this order is right): Sarah, William M. (1765-1815/6), Ann, Mark (d. 1835), Mary Matilda, Frances, Elisabeth and Charles.
Sarah first married William Cain and had Elisha and James; she then married a man named Loyd (first name unknown) and had Mary; she married a third time, a man named Mattox or, possibly, Malloy (source's handwriting is indistinct). No children that I am aware of from the third marriage.
William M. married Bethsheba Cain (don't know if there was a relation between Bethsheba and William). They had seven children: James L Linam (m. Beersheba ____, d. 1872), Matthew Linam (m. Sarah M. ____), Absolom Linam (m. Eveline R. ____), William H. Linam (b. @1802, m.1st, Elizabeth Andress, m.2nd Eva Adela[u] Blackman, d. 1882), John Berry Linam (b. 1807, m. Lucy Harris, d. 1897), Elijah Linam (m. Sarah E. ____, d. @ 1879) and Mary Linam (m. ____ Rivers).
Ann married Thomas Odill and had Mary Odill (1789-1852).
Mark married Cassandra _____ and died in 1835. There were four children: Sarah E. Linam (m. ____ Harvin), Mark McKellar Linam (1822-1858), William Linam and Daniel I. Linam.
Mary Matilda married James Compton. NFI
Frances married Robert Milward Compton (another Compton). NFI
Elizabeth married Charles Poinsett Richardson. NFI
I have no information on Charles.
My information indicates that Mary Linam (Morris' wife) married a second time to a man named Williams. There was a child named Singleton Williams.
The old Cain Plantation graveyard in Sumter County has the following graves (notice the spellings):
William M. Lynam, son of Morris and Mary Lynam, born 1765, died 1816(?), aged 49 years.
Mary Cain, wife of William Cain and daughter of Thomas and Ann O'dil who parted this life 9th of February 1852, aged 62 years 9 months and 19 days.
Mark Linam, died March 3, 1835, aged 55 years.
Casandra Linam, died Aug 3 1848 (1843?), aged 60 years.
Thomas M. Linam, born July 14, 1841, died July 31, 1861.
D.J. Lynam, born Jan 30, 1802, died ___ 6, 1882. I believe this is the Daniel Lynam you seek.
Kezia H., wife of D.J. Linam, born Nov 6, 1808, died Feb 23, 1869.
The Bethel Baptist Church cemetery (Sumter County?) has the grave of Mark M. Lynam, M.D., born Oct 20, 1822, died Apr 25, 1858.
I hope this is helpful. Sorry I don't have any more descendent information. If you can fill in any blanks or correct any information, I would be grateful. I am especially interested in how Morris and Mary came to Sumter County. Regards, Jim Linam
