Hi Carol - There is a lot of conflicting information on John Linn s/o Levi. If you look at Ancestry.Com there are several dozen people who link John s/o Levi and John s/o Isaac with Sarah Pitman. There is no doubt that Sarah married a Linn, but it was not either of the above Linn's. There is a series of books called Hardestys History of Monroe Co., Ohio. There are 12 volumes in thes series. In vol 5 it shows John, husband of Sarah, death as 12 Oct 1843 at age 67 yrs 5 mo. This would put John's birth at year 1776. Levi did not marry until 1784. Levi's wife Mary Van Buskirk would have been 7 yrs old at the time of John's birth. All of Levi's children were born after 1785. John s/o of Isaac is also not the one married to Sarah. The census in Bedford Pa in 1790 shows Isaac Linn as having two males over the age of 16 in the household. There were only 2 males born to Isaac and John was the first born. Based on the above John would have been born before 1784. Isaac moved with his family to Wheeling Virginia, now WVA, in late 1790 early 1791. The personal property tax for Ohio Co. Va. forthe period 1790 - 91 shows both John and Isaac at this time. The heading for John, in the tax list, is males over 16. This confirms the Bedford data.
I show Sarah Pitman as being born in 1783. The 1850 census for Washington Co. Ohio shows Sarah living with her daughter Matilda Hendershot. She was living in Ludlow Twp.
The parents of John E. Lynn are Elisha Linn & his wife Catherine. Elisha's parents are Addis Linn & Jemima ? Addis, Isaac and Levi, along with 9 other children, were the issue of William Thomas Linn & Jane Walton Addis.
If you have any differences, or corrections to the above please let me know.
Jim Lynn
