There is now a surname project at Family Tree DNA for the name Lynn/Linn/Lynd/Lind. The reason for this grouping of spellings is that several families in Scotland appeared in some records as Linn or Lynn and in others as Lind or Lynd.

Anyone who has hit a Lynn brick wall should consider a Y-DNA test and joining the project (or just joining the project if you've already been tested). It was through DNA that a connection was made between my family and a distant cousin whose grandfather had been adopted. If you've already been tested but with another company, you may still be eligible to join.

In addition to FTDNA, we soon will be uploading an independent website for any Linn, etc. who is found to be in the uncommon haplogroup R-U198.

If you're interested in knowing more, please write me, Loretta (Lynn) Layman, at I hope very much to hear from some of you.
