Len---I am interested in your message dated September 18, 2000, addressed to Charles Lynskey, one of my cousins who is also doing research on the Lynskey family. Please read my message posted on GenForum dated July 25, 2000, as your great grandfather Patrick Lynskey may be closely related to our Lynskey family.

I have been doing a considerable amount of family genealogy work this summer, as my message notes, and the Patrick Lynskey referred to in that message is probably the brother of Martin Carroll Lynskey, my great grandfather, and also the gg grandfather of Charles. Both of those Lynskeys came from Ireland in the early 1850s, settled in Virginia, and fought in the 21st Infantry Regiment (Pittsylvania County, Virginia) of the Army Of Northern Virginia (Robert E. Lee's Command).

I will have to review some of my files, but I do know that this Patrick Lynskey was married in Virginia, and I believe that his wife was a native-born American.

Martin Carroll Lynskey came from Athenry, County Galway (about 17 miles east of Galway on the road to Dublin), and I have visited that family property and met with close relatives of mine there.

I know a fair amount about the Lynskeys in Ireland as a clan (sept) going back many centuries, and it is one of the oldest pure Gaelic families in Ireland, with a concentration in Counties Galway and Mayo.

I also know a fair amount about my immediate Lynskey family in the U. S., and Charles Lynskey's side of the family (his grandfather and my father were first cousins) has also amassed a fairly good collection of specifics. Charles lives in Connecticut, but his father was raised in the Northern Virginia area near where I currently live.

Please let me know a bit more about yourself and how to contact you. I will soon have my computer system operational again, and my e-mail address is: "jlynskey@millkern.com"

I would be most interested in collaborating with you, and I can tie you up with Charles, as well.

Best regards. Jerrie Lynskey
