The NEHGS website has a database of MA vital records from 1841 to 1910 (for members). These are records that were turned in to the state by town clerks annually. The records are kept at the MA Archives, but images are being made available at the NEHGS site. Currently this comes up

Scott Barbara (Pettee) Boston 1898 483 96 Death image not available

As you have another post identifying your Barbara as Petrie I would think it possible that this is your Barbara and that a simple error was made in the name. This is the only Barbara Scott I found. The numbers are the volume (483) and page.

You could order the information from the MA archives--it will cost $3 and there will be a wait of maybe a month http://www.sec.state.ma.us/arc/arcres/residx.htm , or you could try the City of Boston at a higher cost and about the same wait. It may depend upon just what sort of document you want, and of course how much you are willing to risk on this being the right Barbara. http://www.cityofboston.gov/registry/

It's possible the image will be online soon, or it could be there just won't be one (I'm not sure how far along they are now). If you want to wait a while and send me an email reminder I'd be happy to check later for the image. There should be age, cause of death, parents' names, place of birth, but sometimes not all of these were reported and as with any death report, sometimes the person making the report didn't really know.
