I see Ruth Nickerson's death record and it appears her maiden name was also Nickerson (daughter of David and Fear Nickerson).
FYI I am not a descendant of this line but that of Esther Eldredge the daughter of Thomas Eldredge and Elizabeth Bearse. I am trying to figure out who Thomas' parents were.
I found your John in Chatham.
He died March 13, 1874 in Chatham, MA.
Cause of Death: Liver Complaint
Age: 71 years and 3 months
Born: Chatham son of Bearse and Rebecca
The record does state that he was married.
I also confirm that John is living with a Ruth in the 1870 Census
