I am looking for the location of early Ipswich, MA deeds, in particular those before 1660. I’ve been referred to several different places and have now come full circle. The particular record is: "Ipswich Deeds Vol 1 p 182". I am trying to follow up on the following item from HISTORICAL COLLECTIONS OF THE ESSEX INSTITUTE, Vol. XLIL January, 1906 No. 1, which says: William Wild of Ipswich sold to George Hadley of Rowley all the accomodations granted unto him by the towne of Rowley at Merrimack river nere Haverill viz all his house and bame & fifteen acres of land about it lying & being by Merrimack river having the land of Robert Hazeltine toward the east & the town pasture toward the west alsoe twenty eight acres be it more or less lying at the end of the aforesaid land alsoe two hundred acres be it more or less having the land of Robert Hasseltine toward the east Rowley comon toward the west & the land last mentioned toward the north & Rowley comon toward the south. Dec 17 1655 (Ipswich Deeds Vol 1 p 182 ) I started at the Southern Essex County records who don't have much before 1700 and definitely don't have this one. They referred me to the Ipswich Historical Society, who referred me to the Phillips Library at Peabody Essex Museum in Salem. They said most of the early town and county records were moved to the state archives. The state archive person said they were at the the Southern Essex County place in Salem, which is where I started. I've already been page-by-page through the original town and Proprietor's records on film, both the originals and the transcriptions done in the early 1800's just to make sure the early Ipswich deeds are hidden in there. They aren't although some of the first divisions of the original grants are. Any suggestions? Thanks, Brad Notify Administrator about this message?
