Hello Harriet-
My gggrandfather was named Christian Maas, and was born in 1836 in Germany, died in 1908 in Newman, CA. Could he have possibly been a sibling to your August David Maas? If so, they would both have a father named Christian- certainly a possibility! The only other thing I know about my Christian is that he had a daughter named Johanna (my ggrandmother) who was also born in Germany in 1864, and they probably didn't appear in the US until the mid 1880's.
Could we have a connection here? What are your thoughts?
