Hello Suzanne,
Its a longshot, but my gg grandfather was Christian Maas b 1836 Germany, d 1908 Newman, CA. His daughter, Johanna K. Maas was born in Germany abt. June 1864. She married Johann Moeller of Itzehoe (near Hamburg) about 1884, and they emigrated to California about 1886-88 with their daughter Gertie (my grandmother). Does any of this jive with your family?
