re your message 25 May 2001 : did my response assist? I do have more info re MABBS MABB MABBE in Chichester (e.g. 3 or 4 families there in mid 1800s, some of them bakers) and also generally re these names in Selsey/Chichester area and along south coast as far as Eastbourne. Some date from mid 1500s

e.g a Richard MABBS m Mary LUCY Eastbourne, Sussex, 24 Nov 1566. It looks as though his siblings used the surnames MABB and MABBE. Yeoman Nicholas MABBE Hamsey near Lewes, Sussex) 1563. John MABBE of Rumboldswyke (fringe of Chichester died 1604. etc etc

should we be exchanging info please?
