For anyone following this exchange.....through Beverley's kind offices I have email-met Heather(living in Selsey area) who turns out to be my 8th cousin. Very helpfully she has provided some information with more to follow.
We are both descended from John Mabbs born about 6 Jan 1631 in Runmboldswyke (Chichester). His parents were Francis Mabb born abt 1600 married Elizabeth Addams in Chichester on 12 Oct 1626.
There is a reasonable presumption that a John Mabbe of Rumboldsweeke who died abt 1604 (and was a churchwarden in 1593/4/5)was his father ....born abt 1550/60?
