As I have found it, in 1866 the Death Index volumes changed from handwritten entries on parchment to printed entries - and at the same time the ages commenced to be noted. Apart from 4 ‘missing’ quarterly volumes of B/M/D indexes (equivalent to one year), in the period 1866 to 1926 for all England and Wales the MABBS deaths recorded were Ages Male Female 0 14 18 1-9 7 20 10-19 1 0 20-29 4 3 30-39 3 8 40-49 5 5 50-59 10 5 60-69 5 10 70-79 7 14 80-89 6 6 all of which suggests to me that the MABBS gene pool tends towards longevity provided the birth trauma is survived. I hope this is a welcome interpretation perhaps of some minor relief ! Michael Mabbs Surrey England Notify Administrator about this message?
