Google books has the directory of members of Society of Colonial Wars in America, Dist. of Columbia Chapter, for 1897. One member has Jan Pieterse [Mebee, etc.] as his qualifying ancestor. Jan is said to have successfully defended his stone house, in Schenectady, during the 1690 raid by French and Indian warriors. I cannot find any comfirmation of this in online accts. of the raid. I have emailed the NY chap. of SCWA; as, the DC chapter has no web presence. I assume that records of evidences submitted by applicants might have been retained on file. Anyone know of this story? Any SCWA members in the clan? I descend from Jan's bro., Caspar. Thanks, Jon v. Briesen Forked River NJ Notify Administrator about this message?
