Barbara,
Thanks for the additional information on the MABEE family. You are most likely correct that the Hawley Mabee I found listed in the 1870 Van Etten census was George H. Mabee...it seems it wasn't at all uncommon for people to be referred to more by their middle name than their first name, or, in the case of women, a "pet" name. So it sounds as if George H. Mabee gravitated away from Chemung county
toward the Jamestown area. I still have no idea what happened to his brother Judson...hopefully that discovery will come at a later time. Is there any info. on this family which I might be able to provide you? Perhaps you would like me to mail you a copy of Sarah (Briggs) Mabee's obituary for your research/records?
