The name is very ancient in the British Isles.

It derives from Mabon meaning 'son of' in Welsh Mab is son.

There was also a god Mabon.
The name is found in Scotland and Cornwall, it appears to cluster along the western seaboard of the British Isles.

Hope this helps
Gill
