I have had no luck at all tryng to determine the parents of my ancestor, Louisa PACE of Amherst / Pugwash, Cumberland county, Nova Scotia. I'm posting this message in the hope that SOMEONE might be able to help me. The following is all I know about her: She was born about 1820, married William HUSSEY and had the following children:
Edmund (b.22Feb1846)
Amarilla (b.24Feb1848)
Adelaide (or Helen Adelaide - b.17Jun1851)
James (b.2Mar1854)
Caroline (b.3Mar1856)
John (b.9Mar1861)
William (b.11Mar1864)
Also resident in the home was a Widower named Edward POCO (b.1796)
and a widow, Irena Hussey (b.1788) who I take to be William's mother.
Marriages of the children, as near as I can piece them together:
Amarilla m. Thomas MABIE 14May1878
Adelaide m. William Alexander THOMPSON 24Aug1875
James m. Annie (?) about 1873 (had 3 sons: Walter, Fred & Charles, all of whom later moved to BC, Canada)
Caroline m. Eneas DIMOCK before 1880 (had at least 1 daughter: Mary E.)
Now this is all speculation on my part, but I've been informed that nearly every PACE in Nova Scotia in the early 1800's was connected to the Loyalist PACE family. The problem is, Louisa doesn't appear in "The Pace Family of Nova Scotia". It seems that she must be related, as she hails from the same area they settled. Also interesting is the boarder named Edward POCO. This is a Spanish name which would have been rare or non-existent in Nova Scotia at that time. Could he have come up from the southern states with the Paces after the Revolutionary war?
Louisa does not appear to be a daughter of any of the Loyalist paces (unless she slipped thru the cracks), but perhaps she was a niece or cousin who moved up shortly after they did? There don't appear to be any Louisa's born in 1820, though I did hear a story that a Barnabas PACE in Georgia Gifted land to his beloved granddaughter Louisa (by his son Dreadzil). Does anyone know anything about this Louisa?
As you can see, I'm clutching at straws here. Any useful information would be greatly appreciated. PLEASSSSE HELP!
