There may well be a connection. My husband's father's family moved from Underhill, Vt. to Ekalaka, Montana in the early 1900's for a short while, raising ? sheep. GF John Mable, GUncle Fred Mable. Fred died there and family came back to Vt. On the 1880 census, the names were Meabel, Meable. Spellings on old Vt. records were also Mabel, Mabelle. Death record for GGGF William Mable states born in England, but I haven't found anything else yet.
I have correspondence from Sept. & Oct. 1990 from a Robert Maybell in Hesperia, CA. r/t his ancestors Aaron, James, Robert, Margaret, William Maybell in Wisconsin and Montana. I think I ran across a genealogy query he had placed in Yankee magazine. I then found a Robert Maybell gravestone in a Burlington Vt. cemetery. If any of this seems helpful to you I would be happy to photocopy the letters & snail mail them to you. I would love to find a connection too.
