I noticed the msgs re this couple and I am also descended from them. But I have them married 21 Mar 1778 in Melrose, Roxburghshire, Scotland, with children born between 1779 and 1792, all in Melrose. I am descended from their son, John b. 1784, who married Elizabeth McGill and had 4 children in Scotland before emigrating to US (Schenectady area & later Holland, Erie Co)where several more children were born. I am not aware that Wm/Margaret left Scotland, although some of their other children (other than John) did, I believe. Perhaps we can exchange sources and info and try to figure this out.
