Mabray Syndicate, 1890s, Missouri

In looking through papers about my great grandfather, I saw a reference to "the Mabray syndicate," a group of con artists. While that's a bit unsavory, I wonder if anyone here knows anything about this. The timing would have been about the mid-1890s. And there was a T. S. Robinson connected with them.
