Hinchie Mabry was a colonel in the Confederate army and, as such, often commanded a brigade of cavalry. However, it appears he was never a general. Ezra J. Warner in his book "Generals in Gray" has a short biography of every Conbfederate General (about 425 in number). Hinchie is not listed and Mr. Warner did a thorough search to get his book correct. The normal rank for a brigade commander in the Civil War was a Brigadier General but many colonels commamded brigades for various reasons. --- Ken Notify Administrator about this message?
