Petralia Soprana and Petralia Sottano and two small towns in the Palermo region. Both towns have populations of around 2000. They date from prehistoric times and are picturesque medieval towns in the central mountains od Sicily. Unfortunately their populations have declined considerably in the last number of years.
I was in Petralia Soprana in 1991 and I know someone who was their about 5 years ago. Many of the people living their are seniors.
The Macaluso name is very common their and has been for some time. A stained glass window in one of the churches has the name Johannes Macaluso.
