Our family tradition holds that I am 4th cousins with GoftheA Douglas MacArthur as follows:
my grandfather was Clinton MacArthur Norton
whose mother was Mary Louisa (Lilla) MacArthur whose father was Alonzo MacArthur, MD (attended medical school at the forerunner of Northwestern University and wrote a book about prominent men of his time in the upper Midwest of the USA). That much is verified in Norton family records submitted to the Society of the Cinncinati, Washington, DC.
Not verified is:
Alonzo (possibly Andrew---not yet found outside our records and Northwestern) was (maybe) brother of John MacArthur whose son was Arthur MacArthur whose son was Arthur MacArthur (a NY lawyer) who was GEN Douglas MacArthur's grandfather. The lawyer was married to Sarah MacArthur (her maiden name and the general's grandmother), whose father was also a John MacArthur. She had two not identified siblings. Any help in pin-pointing the relationship of Alonzo (Andrew) MacArthur would be appreciated.
