Dianne, I am a bit conused by your dates. Malcolm MacAskill was born in 1723 at Rhua an Dunain in Skye. He graduated from Edinburgh University with a theology degree. He was ordained in Kilmallie 7th August 1751. He was apointed to the parish of the Small Isles 1757, based in Eigg and died 15th April 1787. He was twice married. First marriage to Ann Macleod with who he had two sons Kenneth and John and one daughter, Jean. His second marriage was to Marion Maclean(Mairi Neghean Eoghan) daughter of Hugh Maclean 14th Laird of Coll. They had the following children by my records. Hugh (1st) born 02.07.1762 died 18.03-1763 Donald MD born 04.12.1763 died 28.10.1817 returning to Eigg by boat. Allan moved to Calgarry, Mull born 14.12.1765 died ? Hugh (2nd) born 10.06.1767 died 30.08.1798 Janet born 05.07.1769 died 25.03.1771 Christian born 22.04.1771 died ? married Ronald MacDonald of Laig Mary born 09.03.1775 died 1868 Marion born 15.05.1779 died 03.05.1812 Hector born 11.04.1781 died ? My records say that Talisker Distillery was founded at Carbost in 1830 by Rev. Malcolm's grandsons Hugh and Kenneth. Obviously, it could not have been his son Hugh 1st or 2nd as they would both have been long dead by then. What I am unsure of at this point is, who was the father of Hugh and Kenneth, was it Kenneth by Malcolm's first marriage or Hugh by the second marriage. I don't think it was Donald who was the father as, so far as I am aware he had one daughter, Margaret and two sons, Ewen and Allan. I am still compiling my tree on the MacAskills. Malcolm was my great, great, great great grandfather, his grand-daughter Sarah married John Maclean of Muck and that is the my line of descent. However, I am still trying to find out who was her father amongst Malcolm's sons. Do you know which of Malcolm's sons you are descended from? I haven't been able to get any census records for Eigg, but I have located some records for Muck. Notify Administrator about this message?
