UPDATE - Research by a Friend in Adelaide
Arrived Adelaide Assisted passenger - Domestic Helphers
Johan McAskil arrived 2nd October, 1923 on the ship "Esperance Bay".
A following file stated:
She was born on 28th February 1901 at Inverasdale Ross Shire. She was engaged by Mrs E McNickael of Menindie North Adeliade (an elite suburb of Adelaide).
She took a loan of 20 pounts to be paid back at 2 pounds per month from November, 1923.
Apparently she went to Sydney as (9th February 1925) from the Joint State & Immigaraton Scheme to Immigration Officer, Adelaide advising of transfer to NSW. Joan McAskill from "Esperance Bay on 21st October, 1923 new address - Mrs McKenzie Flowerdene, Bowman St Drummoyne, NSW approx transfer November 1924.
Passage loan 20 pounds balance payable from sydney 10 pounds (she was with a Maud Cowley, Kambala College Rose Bay).
Another letter 27 July 1930 from Immigraton Office Melbourne to Immigration Officer Adelaide re Joan McAskill ex "Esperance Bay" 8 October 1923 to South Aust transfered to NSW. Advised from Immigraton Officer, Sydney - is out of touch with above who is still indebted for passage money to extent of 10 pounds. Please record name and particulars should she come under notice in anyway please advise me.
Apparently at one stage both Joan and Maud stayed or had letters C/- Travelers Aid, Liverpool St Sydney but can't say what date.
Update Research letter 23 March 2001
Maude Joan's friend - ®34 Maude W E Crowley married George B Wilson in 1927 Annandale. George Bruce Wilson died 30 August 1969 Bermaguie Maud Winifred Edith Wilson died Bermagui 28 October 1981. Noted in the NWS Probate
