Bannington McAskill , Isle of Harris, 1824

I am searching for any information about the family of my great-grandfather, Bannington McAskill. His gravestone states, "Born Isle of Harris, 1824". He married Elizabeth(Betsey)MacPhee, born 1831, Isle of Skye. They settled in New Glen, near Baddeck, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and had 10 children, one of whom was my grandfather, Charles McAskill. Bannington's given name seems unusual for that time and place as it seems most males were named Alex, Malcolm, Murdoch , John, etc. so I am curious about its origin. My father was named Bennington - don't know why it was changed slightly. Can anyone help? Jessie(MacAskill) Foot
