While cleaning out my files of old "Haskell" notes, I ran across the following note I had written probably in the 1970's, copied from a book called "A Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to Canada Before Confederation" by Donald Whyte, F.H.G., F.S.G. Sorry I did not copy the date. The information states that a William MACASKILL from the Isle of Skye, Inverness, emigrated to Canada, probably before 1830. It further states his father was Captain Kenneth M. MACASKILL OF "Rudha an Dunain." I had been futilely pursuing the possibility (and still do, sometimes) that my ancestor William HASKELL born in Scotland probably about 1810-15 who came to Canada may have originally been named "Macaskill."
Hope this helps.
