I have a Norman Malcolm MacAskill b. about 1774 in Harris, Outer Hebrides, Scotland; he was married to Christine Campbell b about 1776, also in Harris. They emigrated to Canada in 1828, with at least three children that I have now. They lived in St. Ann's, Cape Breton - don't have a county name.

One of their sons was the largest non-pathological human ever born, at 7 feet 9 inches, weighing over 400 pounds. This son was Angus (1825 - August 8, 1863). He was known as 'The Cape Breton Giant'. I wonder if he was married - any info would help. In any case, he was a brilliant young man, and made a fortune from his size, with tours in the US. He used his money to purchase a store in St. Ann's, and also several farms.

Neil was another son; I need dates and locations for Neil, as well as marriage and other info, and ancestry, with spouses' names. Yikes!- did I just drive you crazy?

A photo is available from the NS Archives of Angus; it is # N-232. I have a poor scanned copy which I could send you as an email attachment.

In fact, I am working on finding all I can of the MacAskills, with a view to discovering my relationship with the great photographer of this family, Wallace R. MacAskill (1890-1956). I was willed one of his prints of the Bluenose by my father, who said he was a cousin of Wallace.

Cheers, Richard Ripley.

Let me know what else you have; I will send you the rest that I have, if requested.
