joan williamson
thank you for your reply to my inquiry. the family i'm looking for had a son donald born about 1800 listed on an1840 census for berneray, but it seems that he may have com from harris. he had sons neill, malcolm and daughter sarah after emigrating to nova scotia but a mr bill lawson with whom i corresponded some years back could find no earlier records of his family. i am guessing that his father's name was malcolm macaskill since his son was called malcolm after the scottish tradition. it is possible that we may have the sons malcolm and neil reversed in the order of their birth. if so the the father of donald may have been neil macaskill of either harris or berneray. any help with this search will be greatly appreciated. my sister plans to visit the isle of harris in june this year and i would like to have some direction to give her.
