Last Saturday evening (12/09/2000) I called Ross-Simon to check on an order & got a young woman by the name of Bridget McAssey. Needless to say, I was very surprised because the only McAssey's I knew were my cousins, uncles, etc. but for fact that there was once a head of stewardesses(in NY) for American Airlines by the name of Wolfelda McAssey & she had a brother was a captain on United out of Denver.
I am of interest to your inquiry because my grandfather John McAssey came from Carlow in the late 1880's to New York. I understood that he worked on the Shannon River & left to evade the British. He married Johanna Blake of County Clare. They had 5 sons and 1 daughter. William died in 1920's at age of 33 leaving wife Bea and son William. His son had 1 son (William)& 2 daughters. Thomas had 2 daughters Mary & Frances - no successors. James Joseph married late in life and had no children. Daniel J. married Pauline Schreiner & had 2 sons - John & James. John adopted a daughter & lived in CT for awhile but is retired mostly to Fla. James is in Schnectady & he has (I think) 2 sons - James & Daniel & 2 daughters. Uncle uncle Dan had 2 daughters - Katherine & Pauline. Katherine had no children & Pauline never married & lives on Long Island. My father Edward Vincent was born in 1905 (the baby on family). He married Anne Terzien & had son - Edward Vincent, Jr. (he is professor of engineering at Villanova), Maureen Anne St. Jean & myself Eileen Anne. My brother has 2 sons who survived - Edward III (who has Edward IV & 3 daughters) & James Joseph - who has 4 daughters. Maureen has 7 children & I have 3. My grandparents had 1 daughter - Agnes who married Anthony Schreiner (Uncle Dan's wife's brother) & they had 1 son Anthony & 2 daughters - Kathleen & Agnes.
I have dates of birth & death at home. I have picture of family tombstone in St. John's Cementary in Queen's, NY.
Since we are not sure where in Carlow my Grandfather came from my brother will be interested because he has gone several times to Ireland & looked around.
