Cardross Macaulay scandal.

While trawling through the Cardross Parish records I came across this McAulay scandal.
NB - That thro the negligence and carelessness of Mr Alexander McAulay schoolmaster of Cardross and Clerk to the Session............. the time of proclamation and marriage of persons was not recorded.
The above incomplete statement was taken from the Marriage Register of Cardross Parish Dunbartonshire it was written in 1708 and was difficult to read in full. On the next line it continued with the following;
James Gilchrist schoolmaster at the Chapell of Kilmahew and being the Clerk of the Session.
There is a further record of Alexander in the Cardross Birth register for October 3rd 1707 where there is this entry,
Elizabeth daughter to Mr Alexander McAulay schoolmaster at the Chapell of Kilmahew and Janet McAulay his spouse.
It looks like Alexander had been a naughty boy and had lost his teaching post and his Church position. I also have a note of an Alexander McAulay schoolmaster at Row being a witness to a Bond between Archibald 1661-1725 Laird of Ardincaple and one of his creditors in 1705. I wonder if he is the same man?
