John Bisland (1742-1821) from Scotland. Living in Natchez, Mississippi from 1776. He and family had moved from North Carolina. In Scotland he had had a dry goods store in partnership with John Muir. Moved to N.C. abt. 1774.

John Bisland m. Susannah Rucker, dau of Col. Peter Rucker of the British army, and had the following issue birth order unknown:

Alexander Bisland
Peter Bisland
William Bisland
James Bisland

Peter studied in Dumbarton and Glasgow.
William studied in Dumbarton.
James studied in Glasgow.

John Bisland also had the following daus:
Katherine m. 1822 Rev. Patterson
Susannah m. 1824 Rev. Samuel Hunter
Sarah m. Rev James Smylie
Elizabeth m. 1808 James Dunbar
Jane m. John W. Ross

There is also a John Bisland mentioned who married Mary Ross and then in 1821 Mary Ring. Is this "John" the same as James?

There is also mentioned a William Bisland married to Mary Witherspoon.

John Bisland's letterbook of 1817 (which John?) has a copy of a letter by William McAulay (a nephew) to John Bain in Scotland.

Also in my post #758 I noted a Margaret McAulay who d. 29 Jan 1885, aged 84 who was married to a Mr Bisland. Coincidence perhaps, but an interesting one.

Letter to Susannah Bisland from Alexander McAulay.
