MacAuslan in NC

I am trying to find if there is a connection between the MacAuslan and the Mott families from NC. A John McAuslan was in New Hanover County, NC in 1852. I descend from Wm. C. Mott (b. 1801, New Hanover Cty), who married a Mary M. (b. 1809). I do not know Mary's maiden name, but wonder if it could have been McAuslan. She and Wm. C. had a son who went by the name of John Mack Mott. Wonder if the Mack could have been shortened from McAuslan? Any information will be appreciated!!
