Looking for what Macleod clan i am related to. My mothers maiden name is McCabe. I have been looking for this information. I too find that this information is scarce and
disappearing. I thought McCabe was Irish and now find it is really Scottish and came from Scotland. I would like to know is the Macleods of Arran or the Macleods of Lewis that the McCabes would be decended from? I find all over the internet it says "Macleods of Lewis",but i also found in two places where it mentioned that they were decended from the "Macleods of Arran." Any information on this would be helpful. Also what does "branch" not a "sept" mean,as you say in your post? I thought a "sept" was a branch? I also don't understand what the difference is between "The Macleods of Lewis" and the "Macleods of Harris" if tormod and torquil were brothers? Would they not have the same blood running through their veins? I suppose if they had different mothers that would change things a bit. Do you have any information on whether they had the same mother or not? Or what tormod and torquil were like? I don't understand how the "Macleods of Arran" come into the picture. I am just trying to understand where i come from ,any help would be appreciated. I always wondered why my brother has blond hair and is very athletic and why i have brown hair with blond in it. I was also bleach blond as a child before my hair darkened a bit. I guess some of this stuff about norse heritage explains that.
