John W. Mackay, Silver Baron - NV 1800s
Posted by: Deven Lewis Date: January 03, 2000 at 19:59:27

In a 1926 letter, a descendant of Margaret "Peggy" Mackey Ellis indicated that "Grandma Ellis" (Peggy) was the first cousin of the John W. Mackay (prounounced MacKEY), who was the famous silver baron associated with William O'Brien, James Fair and James Flood. In brief, this would appear to mean that John W. Mackay must be the son of one of the sons of Elias Mackey of Knox County, KY. Would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone researching this John W. Mackay.
